Day -32

February 21st, 2006

February 19-21 Pre-Transplant Testing

We arrived in New York on Sunday 2/19/06 in the early afternoon.  Since we had some time, we decided to go to the Natural History Museum. When we got there, Randy said that this was probally not a place that Dr. Boulad would have picked because there was so many people ! Near the end of our visit Will started to complain that his throat was hurting.

On Monday, (2/20/06), Will had an EKG, pediatric echo, pulmonary function test and Dental visit.  We met with the social worker who discussed places to stay during transplant and also gave us a tour of  the transplant ward.  Then we waited to see Dr. Boulad.  By this time Will had a fever so they took a  blood culture and then gave him antibotic through IV.  They gave us a tentative admission date of March 16. All the test results are good. They did not show any signs of infections or abnormalites.

On Tuesday, 2/21/06, Will had several CAT scans.  We then met with Dr. Boulad to discuss Will’s current condition and also the upcoming transplant.

Day -38

February 14th, 2006

Well today we got the news that we have been waiting 8 years for.  Will’s transplant date is set for 3/24/06.  His donor will donate on 3/23/06.  This will be an unrelated 10/10 match.  We know very little about our donor.  We do know that she is a female and over 50.  If everything is successful and if she agrees we will get to meet her after 1 year !

Just so that everyone knows how this journal will read.  The -day will decrease until the actual transplant day and then it will be a +day and will increase.

We will try to post to this journal daily so that everyone can follow the treatment and Will’s progress.

Thanks for thinking about Will !
